Posiciones Tobruk

Tobruk Panzerstellung

Tobruk positions were the most common fortified positions along the Normandy coast and there is a wide range of types. More officially been called "Ringstanden" and all are characterized by a single circular opening for a gun. There are two basic types, the Vf58c and Vf58d, which differ in construction details. The Tobruks were the most commonly used machine guns as well, armed with a wide variety of types of machine guns. One of the most common Tobruk was armed with a machine gun MG-34. Another very common type, the Vf61a, was designed to accommodate a 50 mm mortar, and there was a small concrete platform in the center to support the mortar.

These positions typically provided a small shelter behind the aperture ring to provide cover for the crew during the bombardment. Access was through a door in the side or rear of the structure. From tobruks were protected only with the rules B1 (1.5 m or less) that were generally built single storey to the ground to form an additional layer of protection. In this configuration, it had a very difficult target for Allied troops, as they were not easily visible and could only be knocked out by a direct hit. In some cases, were mounted along the immediate waterfront along the water's edge. In these cases, the preferred solution was to build thicker walls than the B1 class standards, although there were many instances where lower standards were followed by economic issues.

A version of Tobruk, commonly seen on the beaches of Normandy, was Panzerstellung equipped with the turret of a tank. These are sometimes based on the standard of Tobruk Vf67v, but also in the amended rates Tobruk including a common but non-standard U-shaped The towers used were generally captured French tanks and the two most common types in Normandy were the Renault FT17 and the APX-R. The turret APX-R was developed by the Atelier de Puteaux in 1935 for the Renault company, hence its designation. Was used initially in the infantry tank Renault R-35, but was later used in the Hotchkiss H-35 and H-39 well. Was updated with better sights gradually switching from the initial binocular "Estienne Fenton" to improve PPLRX-PACI armored periscope in the APX-R1, with a wide field of view.

There were three types of production / configurations of arms of the tower, with the initial L.713 37mm IB SA, L.739 slightly improved turret with 37mm IB SA M.37, and L.767 with the new long-barreled 3B 37mm SA. However, the latter weapon was usually reserved for Renault and Hotchkiss tanks used by the Wehrmacht to fight the partisans, while the two previous types of turret with the short SAIB were used in the Tobruks. These towers also had a coaxial machine gun, usually 7.5 mm Model 31. In some cases, the Wehrmacht modified turret opened by cutting the observation dome at the top and the installation of a hatch in place. Both towers without amendments, modifications, could be seen in the Tobruks in Normandy.

The turret was manned by a single gunman and the original version of the tank, had a leather strap as a seat was suspended from the turret ring. In some cases this has been removed and the striker was just standing. The practice of the Wehrmacht was to provide them with at least two soldiers, the second of which helped the striker, providing ammunition. There was no formal ammunition stowage in these shelters, ammunition is stored usually in shipping containers, which in the case of 37 mm ammunition French was a simple wooden box. There was no access hatch in the rear of the turret, but access to the Tobruk was usually through the bunker door.

Aviación de caza soviética (II)

Polikarpov I-15 "Chato"
