Vought OS2U Kingfisher


El OS2U se produjo siguiendo la misma especificación que el SO3C, aunque en conjunto fue un avión más satisfactorio y el mejor aparato de observación y exploración de la US Navy durante la II Guerra Mundial. El OS2U podía emplear un tren de aterrizaje de ruedas, pero lo más normal era verlo en configuración de hidroavión, con un flotador central y dos pequeños flotadores de estabilización en las alas. El prototipo voló por primera vez en julio de 1938, y el básicamente similar OS2U-1, con un motor R-958-48 de 450 hp, comenzó a entrar en servicio en agosto de 1940. Tras 54 OS2U-1 siguieron 158 ejemplares de la versión OS2U-2, con motor R-985-50, y luego 1.006 OS2U-3, con blindaje de protección para el piloto y el observador. Este modelo fue denominado Kingfisher Mk I por los británicos. Unos 300 ejemplares adicionales fueron construidos por la Naval Aircraft Factory con la designación OSN-1

The OS2U occurred following the same specification as the SO3C, although overall more satisfying was a plane and the best unit of observation and exploration of the U.S. Navy during World War II. The OS2U could use a wheel landing gear, but more often it was to see him in settings seaplane, with a central float and two small stabilizing floats on the wings.
