Aeródromos de la IIGM: Wheeler

Aeródromo de Wheeler 
(Wheeler Field)



Se encuentra en Kamehameha Highway, através de Schofield Barracks y fue construido antes de la guerra. El 7 de diciembre de 1941 en Wheeler Field, los pilotos de Ken Taylor y George Welch observaron la fase inicial del ataque, y se dirigieron al aeródromo de Haleiwa para poder despegar en los P-40 Warhawks allí estacionados y así intentar  interceptar a los aviones japoneses. Varios pilotos norteamericanos lograron despegar de Wheeler Field, derribado a algunos de los aviones enemigos ese día.

Hoy día se sigue manteniendo la hilera de hangares y el diseño de la pista de 1941. Existe una réplica de un P-40 que está estacionado en la puerta de Kawamura, cerca de la autopista Hamehameha de marcas Ken Taylor.

It is located on Kamehameha Highway, Through Schofield Barracks and was built before the war.
