Sd.Kfz 251/22 Pakwagen


Sd.Kfz 251/22 Ausf D Mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen für 7.5cm PaK40 (L46)


Otro de los intentos por movilizar el cañón anticarro PaK 40 de 75 mm fue sobre el bastidor del Sd.Kfz 251 Ausf D. Los primeros vehículos aparecieron en el frente en diciembre de 1944 hasta el final de la contienda.

Su armamento principal era el cañón anticarro PaK 40 L46 de 75 mm que se instalaba en la cámara de transporte con su escudo blindado pero sin su ruedas sobre un pequeño pedestal. El vehículo podía transportar un total de 22 proyectiles y contaba con un blindaje máximo de tan solo 15 mm. El vehículo debía proporcionar la potencia de fuego anticarro necesaria móvil a las unidades de Panzergranadier para combatir a los medios acorazados enemigos.

Tenía una tripulación de cuatro hombres y tenía una autonomía en carretera de 300 Km con los 160 litros de combustible de su depósito. Con su motor Maybach HL42TUKRM de 100 caballos desarrollaba una velocidad máxima de 50 Km/h en carretera y 10 campo a través. El conjunto alcanzaba las 8 toneladas de peso.


Algunos vehículos fueron transformados partiendo del Sd.Kfz 251/9, sustituyendo su armamento principal. En una reunión celebrada entre Hitler y Speer entre el 28 y 29 de noviembre de 1944 se ordenó que se preparasen inmediatamente 72 conversiones para convertir al Sd.Kfz 251/9 en /22 que mejorase la capacidad anticarro de las unidades Panzergrenadiere. El 4 de diciembre de 1944 se informó de que 60 de estas conversiones fueron enviadas al Frente Occidental mientras que otros 6 sets para transformación fueron enviados al Pz.Gren.Ersatz-Brig. Grossdeutschland. Otro lote de 32 cañones PaK 40 de 75 mm fue enviado a Ardelt, en Eberswalde, esperándose otro lote de 34 cañones más del mismo tipo para el 7 de diciembre de 1944.

El vehículo comenzó a actuar dentro de las unidades dónde fue recibido y el 12 de enero de 1945 el Pz.Korps Grossdeutschland recibió la orden de convertir todos los Sd.Kfz 251/9 de su inventario a Sd.Kfz 251/22 aunque no se sabe a ciencia cierta cuantos de ellos fueron transformados. Por su parte, la 12º Panzerdivision, informó el 29 de enero de ese mismo año que había transformados 6 de sus Sd.Kfz 251/9 utilizando algunos PaK 40 del 3./Pz.Jg.Abt. 2 al tiempo que realizaba la solicitud del cambio de vehículos para que el 3./Pz.Jg.Abt. 2 estuviese dotado de cañones de asalto StuG o Jagdpanzer.

Other attempts to mobilize the PaK 40anti-tank gun of 75 mm was on the frame of Sd.Kfz 251 Ausf D. The first vehicles appeared on the front in December 1944 to the end of the war.
